My people love the beach. Each summer, Joe's company has a big conference at Perdido Beach Resort, and we make a family vacation out of it. And each summer, we have a MARVELOUS time!
My people love the water, the sand, the pool, the dark hotel room when the drapes are pulled, the pizza and ice cream downstairs, the omelet station at breakfast, the view on our sunset walks. They like popping into the hospitality room that Joe's company has during the conference and getting free Diet Cokes, wasting money on the claw machine in the arcade (that's Max), being the first ones at the pool in the morning, burying each other in the sand, and eating as much shrimp as possible (that's Jack). They must always watch Pirates of the Caribbean on the ride down, Tacky Jack's must always be our late lunch stop when we roll into town, Lulu's is always our Monday night dinner choice, and everyone must always endure Mom's picture-taking.
This year was our first beach trip as a family of 5! Although Mary has proven to be FEARLESS, we weren't sure if she would like the beach or not. I mean, there's a lot of sand.... and it gets into lots of places. The waves can be a bit scary, and the salty water doesn't taste too good. Would the sand be too hot? Would the sunscreen be too sticky? We KNEW she'd be intrigued by the water.... cause that is her best and favorite word..... WATER, WATER..... but we weren't sure she would love it, you know?
Well, now we know. Mary Powell is a beach baby!! Think GIDGET. She was absolutely MADE to enjoy the beach!! (If you have not seen the movie GIDGET, I'm afraid you and I can no longer be friends.)
As usual, my favorite part about the whole trip was taking pictures. I didn't post EVERY picture I took, but I've posted A LOT of them.... cause I figure as much work as it took to TAKE these pictures, they ought to be SEEN!
I'll let you decide which ones are the bloopers. Cause they're in here, I tell you. All those perfect family beach pictures that everyone posts all the time? LIES. All of them. LIES. Behind that precious picture of your family in all white shirts and stuff...... there HAS to be a lot of yelling and fussing and crying...... cause I KNOW it isn't just us. Is it? Whatever.
