The One with Thanksgiving

It is currently 4:15 in the afternoon on New Year's Eve, but I am determined to document our holiday season before the clock strikes midnight.

And around here, the holidays begin with THANKSGIVING.... just as it should be, huh?

We are thankful.

Truly and deeply and utterly and sincerely THANKFUL.

Full of thanks.  FULL.

It was nice to spend a leisurely Thanksgiving in our new home thinking about and talking about the reasons we have to be full of thanks.  And this year, we did things a bit differently...... since we were staying in Tuscaloosa for Thanksgiving and since it would be just the Powell 5 gathered around our table, we decided to open our home to some folks who didn't exactly have a big Thanksgiving meal to look forward to and who were far, far away from their homes.  Sophie, Annie, and LeiLei joined us this year and we had a marvelous time!  We were able to show them what a "real" American Thanksgiving was like and they talked with us about China and some of their traditions (we're always eager to learn more about the Chinese culture so we can pass it along to Mary as she grows up!)

Thank you, YouTube, for teaching Joe how to be awesome at carving the turkey!

The spread.

My people.

Annie loved Buddy!

And here we all are.... all thankful and stuff.

As a thank you, Sophie gave us a BEAUTIFUL Chinese scroll that is now proudly displayed just inside our front door.  The writing means something like.... blessings will come to you..... that may not be right, but it's close.

It was a wonderful day.  The food was good (if I do say so myself) and the fellowship was lovely.

Thanksgiving.  Indeed.
